Okay, I'll take the plunge and start the thread on [HASH]agentsofshield, which I loathe in the name of everything I love [HASH]cap2 for getting right.
Season 1: Would probably qualify as totalitarian propaganda, if it weren't too muddled and mediocre to deliver any message beyond a creeping sense of moral unease
Season 2: Is it an aimless soap opera of terrible people doing terrible things? Or is it one of those badfics that deal with any threat to the flawless-cinnamon-roll status of the OTP through nonsensical, pre-emptive character assassination? At some point the writers probably all looked around at each other and went, Well, why not both?

Surely seasons 2 has its totalitarian propaganda moments too? I mean, May has Coulson flee in the face of Gonzalez's incursion because there is no SHIELD without him, because apparently SHIELD's got a personality cult going on.

I conveniently became too busy to keep watching around the time they introduced a second secret SHIELD that was all about transparency, with no apparent sense of irony. Just... Why. Why everything.

I always liked to imagine the second SHIELD showing up at Steve's doorstep all "We're the new SHIELD! We believe in transparency, accountability, and democracy! Please join." And Steve is all "But I've never even heard of you," and they totally don't understand why this is a valid criticism of their transparent and accountable organization so secret that it makes Coulson's SHIELD look almost open and aboveboard. Or at least, open and aboveboard about existing, if not about anything else.
And then Steve would slam the door in their faces.

I think slamming doors in faces is the least of what Steve would do if he found out about either SHIELD existing, let alone how they operate.
The more you think about it, the sillier it gets. "We're going to re-create SHIELD, but without all the problems that allowed a shadowy secret organization to penetrate the very core of our ranks!" [Re-creates SHIELD with even less transparency and accountability, doesn't notice the two agents of a shadowy secret organization in their ranks until they start kidnapping and knocking out their teammates]
But I guess it's different if the shadowy secret organization is also calling itself SHIELD. Good thing Hydra never thought to call themselves--oh, wait.

I've considered re-watching all the episodes to make a list of horrible things that happen (where "happen" = "as a conscious choice by Coulson et al. to be terrible"), as a resource we can all refer to, but I don't know if I can bring myself to do it ... maybe in the fall.
