Since a few people have brought it up in private: Yeah, Proboards forces you to pick one of two gender options at registration, and no, as far as I know there's no easy way to disable it. If you don't want it to show up on your profile, you can go to Profile > 'Edit Profile' button in the upper right-hand side > 'Privacy' tab, and there should be a 'Gender Visibility' option that lets you hide it.
